The President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, will be discussing advanced wireless technologies and drones with the top executives in the country including the heads of AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc., T-Mobile US Inc. and other firms. The major focus of the discussion would be how the government can create the right environment for such breakthroughs.
Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, Century Link Inc. CEO Glen Post and AT&T Chief Executive Randall Stephenson will be among the people who will discuss the advanced technologies. The possible projects will include drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, universal broadband, and 5G wireless technologies, according to the reports.
As per Sean Spicer who is the press secretary of White House, Trump will look over the “demonstrations of how these technologies will contribute to the 21st-century economy and how the government can ensure that their safe adoption leads to the best possible outcomes for the American worker and American businesses.”
Before the group meets Trump at 11 am EDT, small meetings shall take place among Deputy Chief Technology Officer Michael Kratsios, White House National Economic Director Gary Cohn, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai, and the officials from NASA and FAA.
It is expected that portfolio companies and venture capital firms will also become a part of this meeting.
In 2016, the FCC made way for 5G which will be a lightning fast internet for the next generation and will lead to universal access to broadband. The project is in the testing phase and is expected to be deployed around 2020.
According to FCC, it is expected that the 5G networks will be providing speed which will be 10 times or even 100 times faster than the current 4G networks.
The mobile phone companies and the policy makers have said that the coming generation of the wireless technology and signals is expected to be a lot more responsive and faster. This may even make way for virtual surgeries or control huge machines remotely. There are some regulatory hurdles in adding an infrastructure to this idea and system.
With the help of 5G networks, “internet of things” will be facilitated as devices like washing machines and thermostats could be connected to the internet. The traffic on the road can be improved with the help of monitoring sensors in the cars and the streetlights. Even the pollution can be controlled by using sensors in trees.
In March, FAA estimated that the fleet of the small drones will become more than triple with the commercial drone fleet rising 10 times making them 442,000 in number.
During the Obama rule, there were policies implemented which opened the doors for low-level small drones for research, routine commercial, and educational use.
