To promote an increase in the number of birth registrations, Plan International Pakistan launches Digital Birth Registration. The unique element about these projects is the use of mobile phones to carry out all the essential tasks.
The project is a joint effort between the provincial government, different health departments, and Plan International Pakistan. The districts which initially took part in the health plan were Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan from Sindh and Chiniot in Punjab. The local civil society departments have also played an integral role in the project and the telecom partner is Telenor for all these projects.
Dr. Asma Hyder who is the chief and the member of Social Sector Ministry of Planning, Development, and Reform, appreciated the efforts by saying that it is only possible to provide universal access to quality health and education if each and every citizen is known. According to her, this is only possible through the presence of a strong CRVS system. She further added that the new Digital Birth Registration system is one of the most influential steps in attaining the future which the government wants for the country.
