A recent report has suggested that Instagram is the worst social media platform for the mental health of young people.
The #StatusofMind survey found that the photo-sharing app has a very negative impact on the body image, sleep, and the fear of missing out in people.
However, in this survey of 1,479 youngsters who were between the age of 14 to 24, it was also revealed that the platform is rather positive in terms of self-identity and self-expression.
The respondents of the survey ranked the impact of all the social media platforms they used on issues like community building, loneliness, and anxiety.
YouTube was the website with the most positive rating and Twitter followed it. Facebook and Snapchat were third and fourth in the ranking respectively.
The report by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) said, “The platforms that are supposed to help young people connect with each other may actually be fueling a mental health crisis.”
The report recommended that websites like Twitter and Facebook should have pop-ups warning the users about all the heavy usage. RSPH reported that seven out of ten people surveyed suggested the same. This signposting can help those who are suffering from mental health issues.
