Huawei has released Mate 9 which is the company’s answer to Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus. Offering a brand identity of its own, the phone has some advantages over the other phones but a few drawbacks as well.
A large screen device which is apt for the ‘power users’ out there and will satisfy their needs in the enterprise space. According to the company, it has the latest and most powerful chipset which is also an invention of Huawei.
The positives which this phone has taken from the iPhone include a great camera, longer battery life, and increased usability which are actually new features for the Huawei phones.
We can call Mate 9 to be one huge effort by Huawei to break into the US cellphone market and call itself the second biggest phone manufacturer instead of being at the third place by the end of 2018.
It is hard to say whether they’ll succeed or not but this phone is definitely their best try till date to dislodge Apple from the runner-up position in phone sales and take the second lead behind Samsung.
The phone has been launched in the US and the UK but it is yet unclear whether it will make its debut in Australia or not. The pricing of the phone in different regions is:
- The USA $599.99
- UK £579
- AU $800
- Europe €699
- Pakistan PKR 69,900
Key Features of the Phone
The Daydream VR
Huawei has already equipped the phone with Daydream VR which means that it is already compatible with the newly launched Google’s VR platform. However, it is not sure if it will be the best compatible phone with the platform.
There is no denying the fact that Huawei has tried to take its Mate series a step further with this new phone and trying to stand out in the market which is already full of quality phablet devices.
If you are the kind of person who goes for a phone upgrade after a few years then Mate 9 might be the right option for you. It has been equipped with its own Machine Learning Algorithm which speeds up the phone over time.
It will adapt to the way you use the device and will prioritize the features which are often used by the user over the services which are hardly touched.
Over 1,000 functions of the phone can be tweaked according to the choice of the user along with providing 20 percent improved performance, 20 percent increase to graphics read/write speed, and a whopping 50 percent boost to system response times.
Design and Display
Sadly, the design of the phone is not exciting at all and the screen is only Full HD which undermined the hopes of getting a QHD on this piece. People who have already used Mate 8 will find a lot of design similarities in this one.
Slightly curved edges on the front and also on the back of the phone help in handling it a bit but it is definitely not as comfortable as the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
The screen measures 157 x 79 x 7.9 mm which is very similar to the iPhone 7 Plus but you get more screen space in this one.
In summation, we would say that it’s a good buy when it comes to durability, battery life, and the solid processor but the display, Daydream feature, and the price go against the phone.
