The Chief Executive Officer of eBay, Devin Wenig, said that the emerging e-commerce markets around the world have it in them to become thriving markets. He issued this statement in response to a question he was asked which was about the growing market in Pakistan.
Along with Pakistan, he mentioned all the fastest growing e-commerce markets in general saying that they have a lot of potential to make it big.
The question he was asked initially at the World Economic Forum (WEF) was about Pakistan’s market but he broadened the scope while explaining his perspective. He said, “it (emerging markets) is the fastest growing markets we have around the world.”
He added in his remarks, “Anywhere where wealth is growing and technology is being adopted, e-commerce is being adopted like crazy.”
He continued saying that the perfect places around the globe for the promotion and growth of e-commerce are the ones which are growing in wealth but the people do not have access to the goods they want. Therefore, “people use e-commerce to get access to those goods.”
He was also asked that why the site was not available in Pakistan. To this he replied that they do not have a local Pakistani version. Nevertheless, customers from the country are shopping on different eBay websites.
Wenig ended the answer by saying, “We absolutely encourage you to shop, and we will get our goods and services in Pakistan for sure. Go and use eBay in Pakistan.”
