On 26th of December, the biggest website for vehicles in Pakistan PakWheels suffered a backlash when it came to maintaining the security of its forums. According to the PakWheels.com, the breach in security was due to an unknown vulnerability in the vBulletin which is the forum software used by the website.
The website claims that the issue was resolved as soon as it surfaced but in the meantime, a significant amount of confidential data was compromised. This included the personal information provided by the registered users on the website.
The website has asked all its users to change their account passwords for future security. However, this doesn’t seem to be a very meaningful solution to the problem. Measures should have been taken by the website beforehand to ensure maximum security of all the private information which the users provide while registering themselves on the website.
In this era when cybercrime is at its peak and some of the major institutions are taking steps to overcome it, PakWheels.com has Not shown a irresponsible attitude being the website of this magnitude.
We hope that they’ll strengthen the security and use encryption to protect all the sensitive data.
