Government Launches Online Passport Renewal Service

Pakistani passport

The government is working hard to provide e-services in Pakistan but at a slower pace. At a recent conference, Interior Minister, Ch Nisar has announced to start online passport renewal services for overseas Pakistanis only.

According to Ch Nisar, the use of e-passport services will lessen the burden on passport offices which are usually overcrowded. “People will be able to get e-passports sitting at home,” he said

He further added that the government is planning to introduce e-service in Pakistan within the next six months. This is a good news because with a population of almost 200 million and only 95 passport offices, Pakistani people were unsatisfied with the customer services they have been receiving. Soon people in Pakistan would be able to apply for a passport renewal online making their lives much easier.

If you are an overseas Pakistani, visit the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports’ website

Follow these simple steps:

1-Create your account

2-Submit an application to renew your passport

3-Pay via secure credit or debit card

You will need to provide passport size photos, fingerprint scans, and other required documents. The website claims that the whole process will simply take 19 minutes.

After the payment and the procedure, you will receive your new passport at the given address.

Although the initiative is appreciable but complaints are being made about the website not processing the applications properly.
